Project Planning, Training and Change Management Highlights:

  • Project Planning
    • This is Essential for a successful migration project
      • Freeze development on Live
      • Review any customisations / development to see if they’re still needed
      • Plan workload – consultants and customer
      • Manage dates – as dates may changes depending on the outcome of the first two migration passes
      • Regular status meetings

“One of our clients employed an external project manager to manage their resources, making sure people pitched for training, completed their assessments and understood the process of the migration with their associated responsibilities. Detailed planning for the cut-over weekend was imperative to make sure that the resources were available to print the necessary trial balances for balancing the V6 to the V7 converted data. This assisted us greatly, since we don’t have the authority as software vendors to get client resources to commit.” – Morne Swanepoel, AccTech Systems

“No-shortcuts were taken in the user acceptance cycle of the project and it ensured we had around 80 support calls after the conversion with 80% of these calls being user-rights or environment related.” Hennie van Aswegen, AccTech Sage X3 team lead.

People don’t always accept change in general, so by managing the change and using training as an effective change management tool, you will achieve greater acceptance to the changes. As part of the migration process, a survey was conducted on the end users’ experience and here was some of the feedback:

Do you feel there was enough Training done before the testing commenced? Do you feel there was enough Testing done on the solution?  Do you feel adequate training was provided for the end users?
